Lola Blomgren's Chili

Preparation Time2 hours


1.5 lbs. ground round beef
6 full-sized carrots
2 green bell pepper
3 onions
4 big stalks celery
3 16-oz cans or 2 24-oz cans kidney beans
2 tbsp. or to taste chili powder
to taste salt and pepper
2 24-oz cans crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. sugar

1. Brown ground beef and drain fat.

2. Cut carrots into nickel-sized slices. Chop and brown all vegetables in olive oil. Add browned ground beef.

3. Drain kidney beans in strainer and rinse. Add to mixture.

4. Add crushed tomatoes, chili powder, sugar, salt, and pepper, and stir. Let simmer on medium-low stirring every 10 to 20 minutes to avoid having ingredients stick and burn. Taste and season to taste.

5. May be served over rice or alone with a tbsp. of sour cream and sharp grated cheddar cheese. Other serving suggestions: corn chips and a tossed salad.
